William Cordes Innovation Award
Recession Spawns New Take on Paint Roller by Wisconsin Textile Mill
Monterey Mills receives national innovation award for revolutionary process
||Janesville, Wis. (March 18, 2013) – On March 16, Monterey Mills, a textile mill based in Janesville, Wisconsin, was awarded the prestigious William Cordes Innovation Award by the American Brush Manufacturers Association (ABMA). The award recognized the Wisconsin company's invention of a seamless, collapsible paint roller superior to existing products currently on the market.
Since the 1940s, paint rollers have been manufactured in much the same way. Monterey Mills President, Dan Sinykin, contends the innovation will set the paint roller on a new and improved course.
|"The economic slow down of the past few years led us to look inward to reassess our resources and opportunities," explained Sinykin. "As the leading supplier of fabric to the paint roller industry in the U.S., Monterey Mills set out to accomplish innovation in the sector we know best."
"Now, with an economic recovery in sight, Monterey Mills is well positioned to introduce an innovative process and fabric alternative to our long-term customers, whose expertise in paint roller manufacturing will bring our product to the next level and ultimately to the consumer,” said Sinykin.
With over a dozen patents granted, Monterey's innovation has already sparked considerable interest from domestic and international paint roller manufacturers. Paint rollers made from the new material will have superior pick-up and release characteristics and shed less than traditional covers. They are also less expensive to manufacture and easier to store for both retailers and painters.
“The William Cordes Innovation Award recognizes that all new and exciting endeavors have beginnings that connect with real people. The seamless, collapsible paint roller developed by Monterey Mills exemplifies the type of innovation that can have a unique impact on our industry and consumers seeking new and more efficient ways to get a job done,” said David Parr, of the American Brush Manufacturers Association.
Beyond the paint roller industry, Monterey Mills supplies fabric to a variety of industries including: apparel, costume, stuffed animals, caseliner, equestrian, boot/slipper liners, pet, medical, automotive aftermarket, and is proud of their Denali Home Furnishing collection of luxurious throws and bedding.
